NDIS First Nations Strategy 2025–2030 launched
The NDIS First Nations Strategy 2025–2030 has been published, setting out what the National Disability Insurance Scheme will do over the next five years to improve outcomes for First Nations participants, their families, carers and communities.
The strategy is built on a simple recognition: in remote and very remote communities, more than one in three participants are not accessing the supports in their plans. Closing that gap is the strategy's central commitment.
What the strategy commits to
- $5.9 million in NDIS Ready funding — increasing the number of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations registered to deliver NDIS services, expanding the supply of culturally appropriate, localised supports.
- Ring-fenced funding for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations in foundational supports and the Thriving Kids program.
- Culturally safe, community-centred design — the strategy is co-designed with First Nations participants, families and communities.
- Alternative commissioning — recognising that the NDIS market alone cannot deliver in remote and First Nations contexts. Communities and governments can purchase or 'commission' supports collectively.
